Split Tin Guitars

Homemade Musical Instruments

In the remote farming communities of the Appalachian Mountains of the USA in the nineteenth century there was a great tradition of homemade music and instrument making.

Cigar box guitars and fiddles, tin can banjos, gourd dulcimers, mandolins made from old cheese boxes, anything readily available was utilised.
Taking inspiration from these early examples I make guitars, banjos and ukuleles from vintage sweet and biscuit tins, collectors items in their own right.

Each one is unique, handmade in my cottage in Cromford, Derbyshire.
